January :  “What a visit!!  We came for a restful weekend at Saint’s Rest.  We had nice walks, board games, great whitefish, lazy mornings, and a trip to the coop.  Such a great place!” - Teri “Great weekend!  Caught up on some much needed sleep.  Ate some great food, did not drink enough beer.  Thank you, Jesus, for blessing me!” - Wayne February :  "Great skiing!  Eagle visited often.  Lots of activity in downtown Marquette:  Dog sled races, shopping, blueberry beer, skiing, family, relaxing home; does not get any better!" - the E. family March :    “We enjoyed our week in Marquette – great skiing – enjoyed the wildlife around the cabin – red crossbills, common redpoles, bald eagles, gulls – deer.  We enjoyed the cabin/house/Saint’s Rest and appreciated how well it accommodates our needs and how clean it was.  Also appreciated the family/house history and getting an insight into folks by the collection of books in the library.” - Gail and Tom “So many entries refer to their last visit to Saint’s Rest.  This will be our first, and now I know firsthand how special and soothing this place is.  As longtime Alaskans “doing time,” as Tina puts it – in Missouri – being on the lake with the ice and snow is refreshing beyond words.  If only our schedule would let us stay longer!  We hope to visit again soon.” Bill and Tina April : “We flew into Marquette to spend the weekend with our daughter who attends NMU and plays volleyball.  Thank you for sharing this homey warm cottage.  We had a fabulous time!  We went to volleyball tournaments, we hiked Sugarloaf and shared special family time.  Thanks again for sharing the gorgeous view and the inviting cottage.” - Don and Kathy. “Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful family treasure.  Our family really enjoyed the homey and clean accommodations.  We spent time watching the islands for birds and such – saw the herons nesting out there, hiking Presque Isle, and checking out NMU for our 17 year-old.  We had friends out for dinner.  They also love this place, and we all got to watch the deer parade out front.  Really enjoyed all the history of the house and thinking about your father’s and family’s enjoyment of the cabin and area.  Everyone would like to come back again.” - Melissa, Dave, Sophie, Noah and Liam May : “Saint’s Rest is where dreams are made.  I cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel to have had my beautiful family stay in your cottage.  We all ran like children to the beach and basked in the warm sun.  I did yoga in the sand and meditated at sunset.  It was truly magical.  My dad, sister and son took their kayaks across to the islands.  One was a rookery full of baby seagulls, and hundreds of nests.  This house is truly magical and we look forward to coming back.” - Tom Saint’s Rest has been the perfect getaway from the craziness of Afganistan, where my husband and I have been posted for the last nine months.  The view in itself has been spectacular.  There were days when I curled up on the recliner in front of the picture window with a good book and didn’t want to get up!  Add to that all the creature comforts of the house and we knew that it would be hard to leave!  But we did get out hiking – Whetmore to Little Presque Isle, Hogsback, and Little Garlic, where a steelhead literally swam over, stuck his head out of the water, and all but begged Brian to come out fishing.  Saint’s Rest was the perfect place to host our Marquette family.  We had fabulous “Surf and Turf” meals, featuring whitefish, venison and steak.  We topped that off with a roaring bonfire on the beach where we roasted marshmallows for smores while watching the sunset.  Even though the icebergs were still floating about, it didn’t deter the little ones (and one brave adult) from getting into the blue water of Lake Superior in true Yooper style.  We had a fantastic time enjoying nature, reconnecting with family, and relaxing in the coziness of Saint’s Rest.  We hope to make this a regular visit! Tina and Brian June :    "As I enjoyed the surroundings on my 51st birthday, we couldn't have been in a better place.  Mother and I got in the canoe and paddled around the islands on a nice calm day.  At the island was a pair of loons, making a wonderful sound.  The view towards shore is very nice.  Our memories of that day are priceless!" - Gary   "Wow.  What a beautiful place to enjoy the pleasures of Marquette from.  This cabin is a great home, we are grateful to you for sharing it with us." - Martha July :    "As I sit here writing this, I look out at the islands and beautiful Lake Superior and it's awesome sand beach.  This beach is our own private piece of heaven.  The beach was the best part of our stay here.  My grandson had a blast digging in the sand, building sand castles and swimming in the waves." - Deb  "Our daughter will start school here in the fall...  We have had some great laughs and wonderful dining and shopping here in town.  Enjoyed hearing the train.  Reminds me of my little town, and the sounds of the birds and just nature itself has been such a blessing for me and my family." - Dave  "I don't think we'd ever tire of watching the lake - waves, reflections, birds, random dogs, the arc of the horizon.  We've been at Saint's Rest a week and it feels like home." - Suzanne August :   "My wife, kids and I had a blast!  My three boys loved playing in the water and building castles on the beach.  Today we hiked up Sugarloaf Mountain, then my family (including my three year-old boy) jumped off the cliffs (at the Black Rocks) on Presque Isle." - Adam  "This whole area has tremendous beauty...  Even the sound of the train and lonesome train whistle at times reminded me of a time gone by.  I actually found it soothing.  I certainly want to return here and share it with my family and friends." - Mark   "(My daughters and I)... had an amazing time playing in the sand and swimming in 'the big lake.'  There is no sound better to a mother than the sound of your children's laughter and seeing a genuine, carefree smile on their faces for days!  We hiked & hiked & and hiked, swam & swam & swam & two of us jumped off the Black Rocks...  It was a great vacation!" - Jennifer   "When we arrived at Saint's Rest we immediately saw how beautiful it was... We didn't even have to say anything as we piled out of the house one by one to sit on the beach, looking at the sunset.  We all took a sigh of relief because we all knew this was an amazing spot." - The C. family September :  "Our long weekend here has been incredible.  We logged many miles on the Lakeshore path, beach and downtown.  We are officially in love with Marquette - one of the coolest little cities we've ever been to!  My husband ran the 1/2 marathon and said the course was great - we had fun cheering him on!  In town we ate at Aubree's which was great and also made a stop at Doncker's for malts and candy - truly an old- time candy shop to check out." - Molly  "Our first visit to Saint's Rest was so relaxing!  Enjoyed long walks on the beach, biking; the water was a great temperature thanks to the warm summer.  The accommodations could not have been better... this place is a real jewel!" - Bruce  "Earlier today we walked a big loop to Presque Isle Park, around the point and back along the beach, continually amazed at the endlessly varied blues in the lake.  We rewarded ourselves with a perfect lunch on the deck:  Smoked whitefish from the excellent Thill's Fish Market (the quonset hut on the water near the ore dock in downtown Marquette)... and a baguette from the fine Marquette Bakery at 117 West Baraga Ave. downtown." - Diane October :   "Parents weekend at NMU.  The lake was calm and the temperature 70 degrees.  The colors of the trees are breathtaking. Saturday a huge storm blew in, temps in the 30's, high winds, HUGE waves and sleet.  Same lake - a different kind of beauty.  Took in the football game, then bought shrimp at Thill's fish market.  Had a great dinner with our son right here, looking at the lake." - Jodee  "The view was amazing from the cabin and we enjoyed walking the beach with very few people this time of year.  If you enjoy beer, Black Rocks Brewery is a must!" - Jason November :  "Saint's Rest has a beauty all it's own this time of year." - Marty December :  "Wonderful stay at Saint's Rest.  The family had much fun and we enjoyed the winter view, a stroll along the beach in the evenings and the home feeling of the cottage." - The B. family
